What happens when Bulgaria’s top tech minds meet over a chessboard? You get Accedia Masters IT - the only chess tournament for IT professionals in Bulgaria. The ninth season on 12 April brought together 103 participants from 80 companies for a full day of intense play. Half of the players have an international rating, with multiple Bulgarian champions, European and World medalists among them.

Nikolay Hristov (Accedia) took home the championship title with 8 out of 9 points — the best individual performance and the top result from our company. He was followed by Dimiter Daskalov (Ingram Micro) with 7.5 points and Rostislav Raev (Musalasoft) with 7 points. Special internal recognition was also given to Accedia’s top performers: Stefan Dimitrov and Bozhidar Marinov. The awards ceremony was attended by Nikola Kanov, currently Bulgaria’s leading junior chess player and a newly titled International Master.

This year’s ninth season featured a generous prize fund, with additional special prizes for the top performers. The tournament was organized by our team, led by our CEO Nikolay Mutafov and Engineering Director Georgi Peltekov, in collaboration with Veneta Petkova, President of Chess Club ELIT.

“At Accedia, we support initiatives that create opportunities for development through knowledge and skills exchange,” said Georgi Peltekov. “The close connection between programming and chess is well known, so it was logical that this initiative met the company’s support."

Accedia Masters IT isn’t just about the final checkmate. It’s about the people who remind us that behind every line of great code, there might be a master of the board.
